Mounds Township High School reunion held

Mounds Township High School had its 18th school reunion Saturday, July 2, in Cape Girardeau.

A total of 145 alumni and spouses gathered at Plaza Convention Center on Saturday afternoon. They came from 16 states, with the farthest being Charlie Bough from California.

The class of 1965 had the most alumni and spouses

present with 20.

The oldest class represented was Wanda Campbell, class of 1939.

Eight alumni were present who have never missed a reunion: Andrea Sproule Brown, class of 1953; Chuck and Jean Essex McCabe, class of 1955; Sally Sproule Britton, class of 1957; and from the class of 1958, Marsha Ryan Watson, Kay Parker Johnson, Ray and Marilyn Palmer Melton.

Everyone gathered in the banquet room. The alumni were welcomed by Margaret Ann Grace, a member of the reunion committee.

Eddie Boyd, class of 1965, gave the invocation and blessing of the food.

Following the meal, Ray “Bubba” Melton was introduced as master of ceremonies. Bubba kept everyone entertained with facts and stories of their school days.

He stirred up many memories and much laughter.

He then introduced Chuck Sowers from Mounds with his band, who provided music for the evening. Lots of visiting and picture taking completed the evening.

When the reunion ended, everyone was already planning for the next year's.

The reunion committee’s members voiced their appreciation to everyone who helped to make this another successful reunion.

The next reunion is planned in July 2018.
