Monarch butterfly program set

Every fall, monarch butterflies migrate south through the region on their way to central Mexico.

Giant City State Park near Makanda is a stopping point for the monarchs during their migration.

Area residents will have an opportunity to learn about monarch butterflies during an upcoming free program which is planned at the park.

“Journey of the Monarch” is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

A short presentation about the monarch butterfly is planned.

The presentation will be followed by a visit outdoors to try to catch and tag migrating monarch butterflies.

Those who want to attend the program are asked to register prior to the event.

Registration, and more information, are available by calling 618-457-4836.
