A-J volleyball team plans to host annual Cancer Awareness Night

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Lady Wildcats volleyball team plans to hold its annual Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The volleyball team is scheduled to host Du Quoin on Oct. 9 at A-JCHS.

Before the varsity game, each girl will be walking with and honoring a cancer survivor and/or honoring someone who has lost their battle with cancer.

Even though it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team has chosen to represent all types of cancers.

Each year the team and coaching staff pick someone from the community  who is battling cancer to be the beneficiary.

Sarah Ballard Sims, a mother of two of the A-J volleyball players, will be this year’s recipient.

She recently was diagnosed with a very rare type of breast cancer.

The volleyball team currently is selling raffle tickets for a Treager grill.

On the night of the game, a drawing will be held to pick a winner of the grill.

A 50/50 raffle and a silent auction featuring a large number of items also are planned.

The volleyball team shared it would “love for as many people as possible to come out and support our team, to support this great cause and to help Sarah Ballard Sims and her family with some of the burden fighting this disease causes.”
