Independence Day events scheduled throughout region

As the paper prepared to go to press on Tuesday, it appeared that a fireworks display will be taking place on July 4th at the Anna City Park in Anna.

Independence Day events also are planned in other area communities.

Here’s a look at some of the events on the calendar for the holiday:

Vienna

The City of Vienna plans to have an Independence Day celebration on Saturday, July 1. The celebration will be at the Vienna Ballpark, which is on the west edge of the city.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. A fireworks display is planned at dusk.

Children’s activities are planned.

The Johnson County Youth League will sell snacks at the concession stand. Just Chill will be selling flavored shaved ice.

DJ Craig Bradley will present music.

The Vienna VFW post plans to have a tent set up at the park and will offer information about the organization, as well as refreshments.

Tamms

An annual Independence Day celebration is planned Tuesday, July 4, in Tamms. The event will be at the Tamms Community Park.

The celebration is sponsored by the Tamms Volunteer Fire Department. Activities are planned throughout the day and into the night.

A car, truck and motorcycle show is scheduled to begin with registration from 10 a.m. to noon. The show is an open entry event, with all vehicles welcomed.

Judging for the show begins at 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 5 p.m.

The celebration also will feature gospel music, a bounce house, a dunking booth, a duck pond, games for the kids, door prizes, barbeque, fish and burgers.

Entertainment featuring Beak & Co. is planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A fireworks display is planned at 10 p.m.

Vendors Sought: The Tamms Volunteer Fire Department is seeking vendors for an upcoming July 4 Independence Day celebration.

Craft items will be accepted, but not food or drink vendors. Alcohol is prohibited.

Exhibitor set up is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on July 4.

Goreville

A Freedom Fest celebration is planned in Goreville. 

During the event, a Kid Fun Zone is planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A corn hole tournament starts at 9 a.m. at the city park.

A gospel music concert featuring The Cornerstone Worship Band is planned at 3 p.m. The concert will be at the corner of Broadway (state Route 37) and Collins Street.

A parade is scheduled at 4 p.m.

A concert begins at 6 p.m. at the city park. Kali Lynn is headlining the concert.

A fireworks display will follow the concert.

Food vendors and other attractions also are planned at the festival.

Cape Girardeau

A Great American Fourth of July Celebration is planned at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau.

At 6 p.m., Arena Park and the grandstand are scheduled to open for spectators.

Patriotic music will be presented by the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band at 8 p.m.

A Southeast Missourian newspaper Spirit of America award presentation is planned at 8:30 p.m.

A fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m.
