Hummingbird Day scheduled at sanctuary near Golconda

Hummingbird Day is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 28, at the War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary near Golconda. 

Hummingbird Day is sponsored by the Shawnee Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society.

Hummingbird Day will be held rain or shine. Admission is free.

The event will provide the public with an opportunity to observe and to learn more about hummingbirds.

The event will take place at the War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located 5 miles north of Golconda.

A presentation titled “Hummingbirds: From Flowers to Feeders and Beyond” is planned throughout the morning. 

Children’s activities are planned. Information about hummingbirds will be available. Refreshments will be served.

A light potluck luncheon is planned at 12:30 p.m., followed by the Shawnee Chapter’s annual meeting.

Organizers provided the following directions to the sanctuary from Golconda: 

Follow Route 146 north 3.5 miles to Bushwack Road and turn left. Follow Bushwack Road about 2.2 miles to the sanctuary entrance on the right. Signs will be posted.
