Forest Service seeks input about proposed mountain bike trail

Centrally located, the Lake Glendale area in Southern Illinois has a history of being popular with trail enthusiasts.

Input is being sought by the U.S. Forest Service/Shawnee National Forest on a proposal to add mountain bike use to a trail system at Lake Glendale Recreation Area.

The 2006 Shawnee National Forest land and resource management plan allows for the possibility of designating such trails.

A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 2, to explore the opportunity for trail designation in that area and gather ideas on what a quality trail system would include.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Lake Glendale Recreation Area’s Goose Bay Picnic Shelter.

Open house participants will have an opportunity to hear directly from U.S. Forest Service staff, to ask questions and to provide their ideas.

More information and a map of the project area can be found online at www.fs.usda.gov/news/shawnee/news-events or on the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/shawneenatlforest.
