Flooding warnings remain in effect

Flood warnings remain in effect until further notice for the Mississippi and Big Muddy rivers in Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri.

The National Weather Service in Paducah shared the following updates about flood conditions in the region.

Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau

At 9 p.m. Monday, the river’s stage at Cape Girardeau was 40.4 feet. Flood stage is 32.0 feet.

Moderate flooding was occurring. Moderate flooding was in the forecast.

The forecast was calling for the river to continue to fall to a stage of 39.9 feet by Wednesday morning, April 10.

Mississippi River at Thebes

At 9 p.m. Monday, the river’s stage at Thebes was 38.9 feet. Flood stage is 33.0 feet.

Moderate flooding was occurring. Moderate flooding was in the forecast.

The forecast was calling for the river to continue to fall to a stage of 38.1 feet by Wednesday morning, April 10.

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro

At 8 p.m. Monday, the river’s stage was 25.2 feet. Flood stage is 22.0 feet.

Minor flooding was occurring. Minor flooding was in the forecast.

The forecast was calling for the river to continue to fall to a stage of 24.5 feet by Wednesday morning, April 10.
