Flag Day concert planned
The Touch of Old quartet of the Little Egypt Barbershop Chorus and the Smoky Hollow String Band plan to present a Flag Day concert at the General John A. Logan Museum in Murphysboro.
The free concert is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14. The museum is located at 1613 Edith St.
The concert is sponsored by the Murphysboro Tourism Commission and the General John A. Logan Museum.
Touch of Old Quartet and the Smoky Hollow String Band will perform patriotic songs and favorite tunes from the barbershop and string band traditions.
Touch of Old features Lee Sanders of Carbondale, baritone; Gerry Boehne of Cobden, lead; Chub Cralley of Murphysboro, tenor; and Ed Mick of Harrisburg, bass. They are members of the Little Egypt Barbershop Chorus, the local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a national and international organization.
Members of the Smoky Hollow String Band, playing bluegrass, old time and other traditional music on acoustic (not electrified) instruments, are Fran Baumann, Joanne Long and Kenny Lipe of Murphysboro and Kevin Haldeman of Carbondale, fiddle; Shawn Duncan of Carbondale, banjo; D.W. Haney of Carbondale, guitar and banjo; and Larry Lipe of Murphysboro, guitar.
