Filing set for 2019 municipal elections
Filing is set to begin Monday, Dec. 10, for 2019 municipal elections in Union County.
Anna, Cobden and Jonesboro are among the communities where elections are slated. Elections are set for April 2, 2019.
Candidates can file nominating petitions from Dec. 10 through Dec. 17.
Anna
Voters will elect a mayor and four city commissioners in 2019.
Steve Hartline is the incumbent mayor.
Incumbent city commissioners are David Isom, Al Kamp and Martha Ann Webb.
Brandon Bierstedt, who had been serving on the council, resigned on Nov. 20.
Cobden
In Cobden, voters will elect three members to the village’s board of trustees.
The incumbents whose terms will expire are Patrick Brumleve, Alma Gomez and Elvis Pearson.
Jonesboro
In Jonesboro, voters will elect city council members to represent Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 3.
In Ward 1, Jimmy Watkins is the incumbent.
In Ward 2, Michael Hunter is the incumbent.
In Ward 3, Mike Stegle is the incumbent.
In related news, Lance Meisenheimer resigned from his post as an alderman from Ward 2. He had two years remaining in his term.
Meisenheimer’s resignation was effective Dec. 1. Meisenheimer was elected in November as Union County clerk. He took office on Dec. 3.
Jonesboro Mayor Ken Blandford was reported to be planning to appoint Steve Haldeman to fill the vacancy on Dec. 3.
