Fallen soldier statue added to memorial in Anna

Improvements and a key addition have been made at a Veterans and Fallen Comrades Memorial which stands in the heart of downtown Anna.

The memorial is located  near the four-way stop intersection in the Union County community.

The project has been spearheaded by American Legion Post No. 344 of Anna. Homer Hawk is the commander of the post.

The monument now features a fallen soldier statue. The statue stands atop the memorial.

In commemoration of the project, a ceremony is planned in March or April.

The Anna American Legion post is voicing its appreciation and thanks to all of those who have helped to support the project, through contributions, donations or by providing volunteer labor.

The American Legion noted that the original monument was erected in 1995 “through the combined, tireless efforts of Mr. Merle Boswell and many other proud patriotic supporters.”

Now, with the help of many in the community, the memorial “will stand for many years to  come.”

The Anna American Legion shared the following list of those who have helped to support the project:

CN Railroad. City of Anna. City of Jonesboro. Long Shadow Classic Garden Ornaments Ltd. Ready Mix Solutions.

Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home. Crain Funeral Home. Hileman Excavating. Ricky King. Jeff Aden Building.

Adam Hoffner. Jim Lyerla. Curt Lyerla. Mark Clary. Zack Rendleman. Ryan Stadelbacher. Tom and Ellen Coffman.
