Edmonds appointed as associate judge

Tyler R. Edmonds of Anna has been appointed as an associate judge of the First Judicial Circuit in Southern Illinois.

Edmonds is serving in his third term as Union County state’s attorney. He has held the post for 10 years and seven months.

Marcia M. Meis, director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, announced on Monday that the First Judicial Circuit judges had voted to select Edmonds as an associate judge of the First Judicial Circuit.

Edmonds earned his undergraduate degree in 2003 from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

He earned his juris doctor degree in 2006 from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

A ceremony to administer the judicial oath of office for Edmonds is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

The oath of office is scheduled to be administered by Judge Mark M. Boie of Union County. This spring, Judge Boie was assigned as an Appellate Court Justice in the Fifth District.

The First Judicial Circuit includes Union, Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Johnson, Pope, Alexander, Pulaski and Massac counties.

Edmonds said he will continue to serve as Union County state’s attorney until Aug. 9.

The Union County Board of Commissioners will vote on filling the vacancy. Edmonds is a Democrat. Whoever is appointed to succeed him also must be a Democrat.

The new state’s attorney will hold office for the remainder of Edmonds’ term. The office will be on the ballot in the November 2020 election.
