Eastern Star makes donation to school’s benevolence fund
The Anna chapter of Eastern Star has donated $1,500 to the benevolence fund at Anna School District No. 37.
Brenda Mayberry, representing the Eastern Star, presented District 37 superintendent Dr. Julie Bullard with the check on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Mayberry stated that the organization worked hard to earn the funds and wanted them to be used for students in the area who truly need help in paying for school supplies or purchasing clothing due to an emergency situation or other financial distress.
Anna School District No. 37 has set up the benevolence fund for this exact reason and uses that fund to serve students in need.
“We often see students who are struggling because they are focused on staying warm or finding supplies to do their homework,” Bullard said.
“The benevolence fund helps us provide these basic needs for students so they can focus on their education.”
Anna School District No. 37 has budgeted a small amount of money for the benevolence fund for many years, but local organizations like the Eastern Star often donate to the fund and allow the school to help more students.
The school has also had organizations donate to the Plentiful Packs program, which allows students to take food home for weekends when they cannot receive a school meal and individuals from the community pay student lunch bills.
