Duck derby fundraiser set in Carbondale

The Carbondale Park District and the Carbondale Fire Department have partnered to host a duck derby, scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Carbondale Super Splash Park, 625 S. Lewis Lane in Carbondale.

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. All proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Super Splash Park.

The general public is invited to adopt a rubber duck, or several, to compete in the duck derby, which will take place in the Super Splash Park’s lazy river.

The top two ducks of three heats (a total of six ducks) will compete to win the following prizes: two tickets to a Cardinals vs. Pirates and Cardinals vs. Cubs baseball game, tickets for four to play 18 holes of golf at Hickory Ridge Golf Course, birthday party packages at the Carbondale Fire Station and Super Splash Park, and a ride on a fire truck at the Southern Illinois University Homecoming Parade this fall.

The winner does not need to be present to win.

Participants may purchase one duck for $5, six ducks for $25, 24 ducks for $100, and 60 ducks for $250. Ducks are available for purchase at Fire Station 2 on Glenview Drive in Carbondale and the Life Community Center on Sunset Drive. Ducks may also be purchased at the event on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 8:55 a.m.
