Dongola Thanksgiving service planned

An annual community Thanksgiving worship service is planned Sunday evening, Nov. 18, in Dongola.

The service is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will be at the First Baptist Church, which is located at 203 E. Cross St.

Organizers of the annual service shared that on the Sunday evening before Thanksgiving, Christian believers from neighboring congregations have gathered together in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ since 1957.

The 10 churches which join together for the service traditionally have rotated as hosts for the special community event.

The pastors and members of each participating church serve as music worship leaders or speakers.

This year, Pastor Mike Cole and Dongola First Baptist are hosting the service.

Volunteers from the participating churches serve on a committee which plans and coordinates the annual endeavor.

Other cooperating churches include Bethany Baptist of Cypress, Big Creek and Friendship Baptist of rural Anna, Maple Grove Baptist and Cypress Grove MB Church of Perks, St. Johns and First Lutheran of Dongola, Mt. Olive Baptist and Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian in rural Dongola.

The Dongola Food Pantry is selected to receive all of the proceeds from this year’s thanksgiving offering.

The group extends a warm welcome to everyone “to come take part in the traditional American freedom of lifting hearts and voices together in worship and thanksgiving to God. “
