Cobden plans to host annual Christmas in Village event

The 10th annual Christmas in the Village celebration is planned Saturday, Dec. 1, in Cobden.

Holiday bazaars and open houses highlight a variety of events that climax with a presentation of Christmas lights in the village’s downtown park.

Old Feed Store

The Old Feed Store on Appleknocker Street plans to host an open house with a hospitality table featuring Christmas treats starting at 9 a.m.  

A variety of local artisans and craft/art vendors will be set up. Lunch will be served.  

Santa Claus is scheduled to visit from noon to 3 p.m. and goody bags for children will be given out.

The Old Feed Store plans to host “A Tawl Paul Christmas” starting at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $12.

Holiday Exhibit

A popular event from last year will return. An exhibit at the Union County Historical Society Resource and Cultural Center (the former medical clinic) at 103 N. Appleknocker St. will be conducted. The exhibit will feature a collection of vintage toy trains.

Bazaars featuring holiday decorations, gifts, crafts and homemade treats will be offered at the Union County Museum’s Christmas Shop, the St. Joseph Catholic Church parish hall and the Apostolic Lighthouse Church. 

Church Bazaar, Soup Luncheon 

St. Joseph Catholic Church’s bazaar also will include a homemade soup luncheon. The bazaar is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the church’s St. Anne Altar Sodality.

The luncheon will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be $5, which includes soup, bread and a drink.

A bucket raffle also is planned at the St. Joseph Catholic Church bazaar. The raffle will feature a variety of special items. Tickets are $1 each, or six for $5.

Shop with a Cop Pancake Breakfast

A Shop-with-a-Cop benefit pancake breakfast is planned at the Cobden Grade School starting at 7 a.m.

Live Nativity Scene

The First Baptist Church of Cobden plans to present a live nativity scene at the corner of West Maple and South Appleknocker from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Cobden School Band

The Cobden School Band is scheduled to perform a Christmas concert near the downtown park shelter at 4:30 p.m. 

The celebration will conclude at 5 p.m. when Christmas lights on display at the downtown park shelter are turned on. 

Many Attractions

Cobden is the home of an antique mall and restaurants that will be open and celebrating the holiday season. Most of the shops open for business between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Cobden has recently experienced the opening of two new restaurants: Downtown Abbey and The Iron Whisk. 

Christmas Shop

The Union County Historical Society’s Christmas Shop also is scheduled to be open. The shop is located at  117 S. Appleknocker in downtown Cobden, next to the Union County Museum.

The shop is scheduled to be open every weekend through Dec. 15. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

This is the primary fund-raiser for the Union County Museum and Historical Society events.
