Civil War Weekend planned at arts center

A variety of events are planned at a Civil War Weekend which is scheduled in February in Union County, Ill.

The Shawnee Hills Arts Council plans to present the Civil War Weekend Feb. 7-10. 

Activities will take place at the arts council’s Anna Arts Center. The center is located at 117 W. Davie St. in Anna.

Here’s a look at the schedule for the Civil War Weekend:

Thursday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m.

“Ghost Stories from the Union County Encampments.” 

Dr. Susan A. Whitemountain will discuss the locations of Civil War encampments in Union County.

Story tellers will remember the men who wore uniforms during the war.

Anna Arts Center. Reservations $15 each. Call 904-625-1109.

Friday, Feb. 8, 6 p.m.

Blue and Gray Dinner. Featuring President Abraham Lincoln, as portrayed by George Buss, and Mrs. Lincoln. 

The dinner will be catered by The Kitchen on Lafayette.

Anna Arts Center. Reservations needed, $25 (deadline of Feb. 1). Call 904-625-1109.

Saturday, Feb. 9, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

History exhibits, guns, quilts, encampment, Kirkpatrick Pottery, exhibit contest, lunch, children’s activities, presentations. Admission is free.

Sunday, Feb. 10, 1 p.m.

Bus tour of historical sites, “Lincoln in Anna-Jonesboro.” Reservations needed, $10 (deadline of Feb. 6). Call 618-833-8745.

The PAST organization of Union County plans to host an open house at the Heritage House, which is located at 102 S. Main St. in Jonesboro. Admission is $5 per person.
