Changes in store for Jonesboro business

The Save-A-Lot supermarket on the hill in Jonesboro that has served the area for over 20 years is undergoing a massive renovation as part of a rebranding overhaul.

Currently closed for the 10-day construction project, the store will reopen its doors on Aug. 14 as Union County Market.

Much more than just a name change, shoppers will find a sizable expansion of products and variety available as well.

“It’s a complete brand change, and an expansion of merchandise,” says co-manager Zachary O’Neal.

According to Zachary, through their former distributer, they had around 2,000 items to choose from to carry in the store. Their new warehouse has up to 38,000 items available to order. Upon opening, Union County Market plans to have over 7,000 types of items in store for sale.

“We get people asking for specific kinds of items, certain kinds of cheeses, certain kinds of meats, flavors of salad dressing or soups. Now we will finally have that variety available to us,” says Zachary.

Union County Market plans to offer the same array of products that shoppers are accustomed to with a much wider variety of options to choose from. More brands will also be made available, including more name brand items. They also intend to carry more organic and gluten-free options as well as other specialty items.

“We were daily telling people, ‘no we can’t get that,’” says store owner Sam O’Neal. “We feel like now that will change.”

Several departments will be expanded as well, including frozen food and the meat department, and a sizable expansion of the produce department.

In addition to the selection expansion, Union County Market is also looking to expand its work force, hoping to hire on 10 new crew members for the store’s reopening.

Union County Market plans to reopen its doors Aug. 14, with a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony to follow the preceding weeks.
