Century FFA poultry, dairy teams compete at John A. Logan events
On Dec. 4, the Century School FFA set up a poultry and dairy team to travel to John A. Logan College in Carterville and participated in the two categorized competitions.
Each team took it upon themselves to study for over a month and a half, taking apart chicken carcasses, grading the chicken carcasses, studying different parts of the chicken, researching chicken facts and grading egg quality and outer shells. The poultry team took second place.
In dairy, the team studied over 20 types of cheeses and distinguished the differences in the types.
The team also took the time to research a few facts as well for its part of the competition, as well as deciphering the difference between real and artificial cheeses and milk.
The team also did a practice of studying contaminated milk: from onions to bleach, nothing went uncovered.
With all of the studying, the dairy team won third. Both teams practiced and studied very hard and it paid off greatly.
