Arts center hosts Klassics for Kids

The Anna Arts Center hosted Klassics for Kids on Wednesday morning, June 8. The event exposed children to the joys of live classical music.

Klassics for Kids featured a quintet which was made up of a clarinet, French horn, bassoon, oboe and a flute that was alternated with a piccolo.

The musicians took turns introducing themselves and their instruments to the kids and answered questions about how to play them.

Each of the musicians demonstrated their abilities with recognizable melodies like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and the themes from “Star Wars” and “The Pink Panther.”

The musicians didn’t just teach the kids about music-making. The kids were given the chance to join in by clapping at key moments to form the percussion for the songs, and some even conducted the quintet for a piece.

The free event was part of the 2016 Southern Illinois Music Festival.
