Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club offers scholarship

Rotary is an international charitable organization comprised of professional and business leaders whose goals are humanitarian service, high ethical standards and the promotion of goodwill and peace around the world.

The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self.” The Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club has served the Union County area since it was officially chartered in 1946.

The Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to eligible high school seniors.

Shawnee Community College will match this scholarship, should the student enroll and attend Shawnee.

Funds will be deposited into the student’s escrow account with SCC.

Eligibility requirements are as follows: a student must be graduating in May 2019 from a Union County high school and planning to enroll at Shawnee Community College for the matching contribution or planning to enroll in a continuing education school program of two or more years, without the SCC match, by the fall of 2019.

The primary criteria for selection are the student’s demonstrated commitment to community service during his/her high school and the student’s acceptance into a continuing education program at Shawnee Community College.

Applications are available at guidance offices at Union County high schools.

Applications must include the student’s, parents’ and school guidance counselor’s signatures.

Completed scholarship applications, along with a copy of the student’s transcript, are to be returned to: Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club Scholarship Committee, PO Box 574, Anna, Ill. 62906, by April 14.

Questions regarding the application can be directed to high school guidance counselors or to Mary Nash-Swink, Rotary Club scholarship committee chairperson.

All applications will be reviewed and selections made entirely at the discretion of the scholarship committee of the Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club. Scholarship awards will be announced by early May.

The recipient of the Rotary scholarship will be required to attend a regular meeting of the Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club by Dec. 31, 2019. The recipient will be presented with a certificate.

For those enrolling with SCC, funds will be deposited into the student’s SCC account once the student is registered/in attendance at SCC and can present proof of enrollment (tuition statement, textbook receipt, ID card, class schedule, etc.) to the club.

For those enrolling with an institution outside of SCC, once the student is registered/in attendance at a post-secondary school and can present proof of enrollment (tuition statement, textbook receipt, ID card, class schedule, etc.) to the club, a check in the amount of $1,000. will be given to the student.
