242 COVID-19 cases reported in Union County

Southern Seven update, as of July 20

The number of COVID-19 cases in Union County had climbed to 242 as of early this week.

Southern Seven Health Department on Monday, July 20, confirmed 34 new cases of COVID-19 in the region it serves in Southern Illinois.

That compared to seven new cases which were recorded on Friday, July 17.

A total of 23 new cases were confirmed in Union County as of Monday.

The cases confirmed on Monday, by county, gender and age, included:

Union County: One female in her 10s, two females in their 20s, one female in her 30s, seven females in their 40s, one male in his 40s, five females in their 50s, one male in his 50s, one female in her 60s, one male in his 60s, one female in her 70s, one male in his 70s, one female in her 80s.

Hardin County: One female in her 10s, one female in her 20s.

Johnson County: One female in her 10s, one male in his 40s, one female in her 60s, one male in his 60s.

Massac County: Two females in their 10s, one female in her 20s, one female in her 40s.

Pulaski County: One female in her 50s.

The cases confirmed on Friday, by county, gender and age, included:

Union County: One female in her 20s, one male in his 30s, one female in her 60s.

Alexander County: One female in her 60s, one female in her 70s.

Hardin County: One female in her 40s.

Johnson County: One male in his 60s.

All of those with new cases were being isolated. 

The health department on Friday also reported the death of a Union County woman in her 90s as a result of COVID-19.

The health department reported a total of eight new recovered cases of COVID-19 in its service area, including one on Monday and seven on Friday.

As of July 20, there were 252 people in the health department’s service area who had recovered since the start of the pandemic in the United States.

Also as of July 20, the health department was reporting a cumulative total of 431 cases of COVID-19 in its service area.  

The health department confirmed that a total of 6,850 COVID-19 tests had been reported in the region as of July 17.

The number of individuals confirmed to have COVID-19 in the area counties served by the Southern Seven Health Department as of July 20 follows:

Union County: 242 cases. 149 had recovered. 18 deaths had been reported in the county.

Alexander County: 27 cases. 17 had recovered.

Hardin County: Seven cases. One person had recovered.

Johnson County: 39 cases. 18 had recovered.

Massac County: 23 cases. 11 had recovered.

Pope County: Three cases. One person had recovered.

Pulaski County: 89 cases. 55 had recovered. 

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, IDPH, in Illinois there were 1,173 new individuals with COVID-19 identified on July 20, bringing the confirmed total in the state to 162,748 individuals, with 7,301 deaths.
