2018 firearm deer harvest totals 80,896

1,387 in Union County

A preliminary total of 80,896 deer were taken by hunters during the seven-day Illinois firearm season that concluded on Sunday, Dec. 2.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, IDNR, reported that the 2018 preliminary harvest total compared to the final total of 80,117 deer harvested during the firearm season in 2017.

The preliminary harvest for the second segment of the firearm season, which ran from Nov. 29, through Dec. 2, was 22,060 deer, compared with 28,656 during the second season in 2017.

The preliminary harvest total for the first segment of this year’s firearm season, which was Nov. 16-18, was 58,836 deer.

A preliminary total for the firearm deer season in area counties follows, as provided by IDNR:

Union County: 981 in first season. 406 in second season. Total 1,387. 2017 total 1,546.

Alexander County: 353 in the first season. 146 in the second season. Total 499. 2017 total 492.

Jackson County: 1,717 in the first season. 722 in the second season. Total 2,439. 2017 total 2,302.

Johnson County: 1,205 in the first season. 356 in the second season. Total 1,561. 2017 total 1,589.

Massac County: 286 in first season. 169 in second season. Total 455. 2017 total 526.

Pulaski County: 207 in first season. 74 in second season. Total 281. 2017 total 340.

Williamson County: 1,256 in the first season. 593 in the second season. Total 1,849. 2017 total 1,775.
