Authorities investigate discovery nof remains

An autopsy was conducted last week on the remains of a person which were discovered in Union County Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, Illinois State Police at Ullin reported.

The remains were found in a wooded area near the southbound Interstate 57 exit east of Anna.

Union County Coroner Darryl Rendleman reported the remains were seen by a passerby, who notified authorities.

Rendleman said an autopsy was conducted Wednesday, Dec. 23, in Farmington, Mo.

Foul play is not suspected in the case, the coroner said.

Rendleman said the identity of the person who was found remains unknown.

Rendleman said the remains appear to be those of a Caucasion male in his 30s or 40s. The person may have been dead for several months before his remains were discovered.

No identification was found on the person, who was wearing a t-shirt and pants.

The cause of the person's death, as well as funeral arrangements, were pending.

The state police are continuing their investigation of the matter with the assistance of the Union County coroner's office.
