Andrew J. Littlepage

Andrew J. Littlepage, 95, of Pekin, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Pekin Manor. He was formerly of Anna.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1918, in Elmo, Mo., the son of Samuel Joseph and Maud Jessie Meneese Littlepage.

He married Maxine Caraker on July 2, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. She died in 1987. He later married Mary Lou Collins Prater in 1988 in Paducah. She died on Sept. 20, 2010, in Murphysboro.

Robinson edges A-J 21-20 in Class 3A playoff action

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School football team got off to a good start in its IHSA Class 3A playoff game at Robinson Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Wildcats scored on their opening drive but couldn’t keep host Robinson from scoring three unanswered touchdowns in a 21-20 loss to the Maroons.

Damian Reed got A-J off to a good start with a good return on the opening kickoff. Reed scored on a 4-yard run on the tenth play of the drive. Dakota Earnhart’s extra-point kick gave the Wildcats a 7-0 first quarter lead.

Veterans Day parade set in Anna

Union County's traditional Veterans Day parade again is planned in Anna.

The parade is set for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Monday is Veterans Day.

The parade is sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 in Anna.

The Anna post has sponsored the Union County parade for many years.

The parade will follow its traditional route through Anna.

Chili and hot dogs will be served at the post home near Anna to all participants following the parade.

Awards also will be presented at the post home.

Leonard Leon Palmer

Leonard Leon Palmer, 82, of Cape Girardeau, died on Nov. 9, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on April 5, 1931, the son of Leonard and Louise Kelso Palmer in Stoddard County, Mo., and was raised in Wolf Lake, where his family moved while he was still an infant.

He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 on US Bataan 29 and later in Adak, Alaska.

He married Patsy Wilson in Wolf Lake on Aug. 20, 1957.

Stephen D. Bobel

Mr. Stephen D. Bobel, age 60 of Cobden, died at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born September 23, 1953 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Barbara Fedorchak Bobel.

Noel Clifford Heil

          Noel Clifford Heil, age 78 of Cobden, died at 11:40 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at his home in Cobden. He was born April 2, 1935 in Hamilton County, Illinois, the son of Noel and Nora Rachel Bond Heil. Cliff married Margaret Johnson on September 1, 1956 in Farmington, Missouri.

John Albert Nichols

John Albert Nichols, age 95 of Dallas, TX, died on Friday October 18<sup>th</sup> in Carrollton, TX, at Atria Senior Living.  He was born in Walker, WV, on September 18<sup>th</sup> 1918.  He married Elizabeth Eloise Treece (formally of Anna) on December 7<sup>th</sup>, 1945.

John is survived by his daughter, Mary (husband Ken) Wendel of Carrollton, TX, granddaughter, Amy (husband Chad) Manint of Frisco, TX, and grandson, Michael Nichols of Austin, TX.  He also is survived by extended family and friends.

Anna woman sentenced for armed robbery, kidnapping

Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported Nov. 7 that Karen S. Nichols, also known as Karen S. Casper, 44, of 150 Hughey Ln., in rural Anna, has been sentenced to a term of 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Nichols was sentenced for the June robbery of a Johnston City woman and the kidnapping of the woman's newborn child.

Nichols was sentenced to a term of 10 years on a charge of armed robbery, a Class X felony, and a concurrent term of seven years on a charge of kidnapping, a Class 1 felony.

Lois Gay

Lois Gay, 95, of Anna, died at 8:40 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at her home in Anna.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Loren and Lucy Hite Gay.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by three brothers, Bill Gay of South Carolina, Leroy Gay of Lake Charles, La., and Loren Gay of Chicago; a special niece, Betsy Smith; other nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends and caretakers at Mulberry Manor, where she called her home for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Dorothy M. “Dot” Fuller

         Mrs. Dorothy M. “Dot” Fuller, age 73 of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully at 8:32 a.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013 at her home in Jonesboro. She was born May 9, 1940 in Anna, the daughter of William Harrison and Wanda Adams Barlow. She married Jim Fuller on February 21, 1959 in Anna.
