Mildred H. McRaven

Mildred H. McRaven, 91, of Anna, died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1921, in McClure, the daughter of Jess and Lula Rhymer.

She married Mac McRaven on July 27, 1941, in Jackson, Mo. They were married for over 55 years. Mac preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1996.

She was a member of the Gospel Kingdom Church in Anna.

Firearm deer season slated

The first firearm deer hunting season of 2013 is planned Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22-24, in Illinois.

Hunting hours are scheduled from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset each day.

The second firearm season of 2013 in Illinois is scheduled Dec. 5-8.


        Deborah M. “Debbie” Pender

        Mrs. Deborah M. “Debbie” Pender, age 53 of Mundelein, IL died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was born August 11, 1960 in Erie, PA, the daughter of Donald and Joan Knauer Stein. She married Jeffrey Pender on December 9, 1978 in Libertyville.

        Kirby L. Patterson

        Kirby L. Patterson, 80, of Jonesboro, died at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

        He was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Cobden, the son of James "Bert" and Alma Williams Patterson.

        He married Geraldine Tibbs on March 8, 1953.

        He graduated from Cobden High School in 1950 and then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving the country for 20 years. He served a one year tour of duty in Vietnam during wartime 1968-1969, also three years in France, 18 months in Tripoli and 12 years at the Pentagon.

        Two Union County men sentenced on meth charges

        Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds on Nov. 8 reported the sentencing of two local men on methamphetamine-related charges.

        Ty W. Dalton, 41, of 115 Kohler Ave., has been sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy: unlawful participation in methamphetamine production, a Class 1 felony.

        Dalton was arrested on Aug. 16 following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff's Office regarding methamphetamine and heroin activity at the residence at 115 Kohler Ave. in Anna.

        Clifton L. Marks

        Mr. Clifton L. Marks, age 78 of Cobden, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home in Cobden. He was born August 5, 1935 in Alto Pass, the son of Elmer and Mary Penrod Marks. He married Janette Williams on August 30, 1963 in Cobden.

        Former Alto Pass area man sentenced for meth production

        Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds reported Nov. 7 that John A. Gleghorn, 56, formerly of 3200 Bald Knob Rd. in rural Alto Pass, has been sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on one count of unlawful participation in methamphetamine manufacturing, a Class X felony.

        Gleghorn was convicted of the charge in April following a trial which lasted two and a half days.

        Under state law, Gleghorn must serve at least 75 percent of the 20-year sentence.

        Carol Corzine

        Carol Corzine, 60, of Dongola, died at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at her home.

        She was born on March 24, 1953, in Anna, the daughter of Barbara Casey.

        She married Bradley Corzine on March 28, 1969.

        She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dongola. She liked gardening.
