PAST hosts annual Lincoln dinner

(Editor's note: the following article was submitted by Barbara Bauer of the PAST organization of Union County.)

In his timeless address, at the dedication of the cemetery at Gettysburg in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln implored, “that these dead shall not have died in vain.”

The local Lincoln Legacy events of Friday, Feb. 18, were conducted so that people of today do not forget the past.

Citizens are encouraged to continue the quest for freedom and the protection of unity for which so many have sacrificed.

Doubly blessed

To the editor,

Sometimes as a boy grows up a man comes along who changes his whole life.

My son has been doubly blessed. For the last four years, two such men have been active in his life.

Coach Rick Bittle and  Coach Kevin Stephens took a wild, raw boy and formed a champion athlete, a confident, self-disciplined young man who is eager to move on to the rest of his life.

Gentlemen, I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us.

I hope you have as much pride in your work as I have gratitude for your efforts.
