Anna District 37honor students named

Anna School District 37 announces second quarter honor roll students:

8th grade, high honor roll: Taylor Anderson, Jacob Brush, Emily Hammer, Maddie Hiller, Haley Inman, Andrew Malnar, Bea Miller, Steven Wells.

8th grade, low honor roll: Levi Biddle, Logan Crunk, Derek Grass, Susannah Hayward, Alissa Hodges, Raeanna Hodges, Jada Hudson, Haleigh Lawrence, Hannah Pineau, Noah Prater, Jared Rendleman Dustin Ryan.

Report recommends creation of county seal

Union County will be getting a new courthouse within the next couple of years.

Sooner than that, a new seal for the county will be created.

As of now, the county does not seem to have an official seal.

That was the finding of a report shared at last week's regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners.

The meeting was held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 18, at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

A report about the Union County seal, or, at least, the lack of one, was shared by Judy Travelstead of Cobden.

Town hall meeting set next Monday in Cobden

The Cobden Community & Business Association, CCBA, plans to host a town hall meeting Monday night, Jan. 10.

The meeting will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Old Feed Store at 111 N. Appleknocker Dr. in downtown Cobden.

CCBA's officers for 2011 will be installed at the meeting. Jill Baldwin will be taking office as the association's president.

Cobden Mayor Molly Beckley is scheduled to give a "state of the village" address.

Rev. Claude Craig

Rev. Claude Craig, 86, of Creve Coeur, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1924, in Alto Pass, the son of Clovis and Clara Toler Craig.

He married Dorothy Gibson on Sept. 2, 1944, in Jonesboro.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Earnest Craig of Long View, Wash.; three daughters, Joan King of Creve Coeur, Marilyn (Steve) Crisler of Germantown Hills and Jeanie (Dan) Farmer of Morton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gilbert (Pauline) Craig of Spring Bay.

Cheryl Stamp named December employee of month at Rural Health

Cheryl Stamp has been selected as December employee of the month at Rural Health Inc. in Anna.

Stamp, of Anna, is a triage nurse at Rural Health’s Anna clinic.

Stamp has been at Rural Health since March 13, 1981.

She works in the Anna clinic as a triage nurse, delivering professional and caring services to Rural Health patients.

Rural Health chief executive officer Cindy Flamm said that Stamp “has an in-depth knowledge of the services available to our patients through Rural Health physicians, mid-level providers and nursing staff.

Cobden hosts successful homecoming

Cobden High School hosted a successful homecoming celebration last weekend.

Some of the highlights from homecoming follow:

Alumni Game: A large crowd attended the Cobden Appleknocker alumni game last Saturday.

Former men's and women's players from four decades competed

Dozens of door prizes were awarded. A social/fellowship for players and Cobden alumni followed the games.

Shawnee posts first win

Ty McMahan scored 28 points to lead Shawnee to a 75-51 win over visiting Dongola in South Egyptian Conference high school boys’ basketball Saturday, Jan. 15. McMahan scored seven 3-pointers.

It was the first win of the season for the Redskins, who are 1-13.

Andrew Livesay added 15 points for Shawnee. Gave Shelton had 13 points, Dylan  Smith 7, Aiden McMahan and Gavyn Ellet 5 each and Brandon Pind 2.

Patricia “Pat” Haire

<p style="line-height: 150%;" class="MsoNormal"><strong style=""><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 150%; font-family:"><span style="">     </span></span> Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Haire, age 71, of Anna, died at 12:33 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born August 12, 1939 in Anna, the daughter of Wade Frank and Clyde E. Hartline Millis. She married Charles R. Haire June 30, 1957 in Anna.</strong></p>
