63-plus inches of precipitation measured in 2015
<p class="p1">After days of cloudy skies and rain, sunshine made a return appearance Tuesday morning in Union County.</p><p class="p1">Rainy weather prevailed in the area on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, which were the final four days of November.</p><p class="p1">November was very wet in the Union County area, with precipitation totalling 9.53 inches in Jonesboro.</p><p class="p1">For the 11 months through the end of November, precipitation in the Union County area has totalled more than 63 inches. </p><p class="p1">Precipitation, in terms of inches, for the area usually averages in the low- to mid-40s.</p><p class="p1">As a result of recent heavy rain, the National Weather Service office in Paducah issued a flood warning for the Mississippi River.</p><p class="p1">The warning covered Union, Alexander and Jackson counties in Southern Illinois and Cape Girardeau, Perry and Scott counties in Southeast Missouri.</p><p class="p1">The weather service reported on its website that minor flooding was expected this week in the Thebes and Cape Girardeau areas.</p><p class="p1">As of 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, the river stage was at 30.5 feet. Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
